Meet The Artist
I’m Arnold G, from Cleveland, Ohio - a devoted Rush fan for the last fifty-one years.
My first exposure to Rush was in the summer of 1975 when I first heard The Necromancer from Rush’s third album, Caress of Steel. From that moment I was completely hooked and thoroughly captivated by their unique sound and the deep well of imagination they brought to every song. Later that year I attended my first Rush concert on November 8, 1975, at Cleveland’s Historic Allen Theater in Playhouse Square. The show featured Rush headlining with Ted Nugent and Artful Dodger in support. And yes, they did in fact play The Necromancer for those wondering if the song was ever played live in its entirety. It’s well known that Rush broke out of Cleveland with radio support from WMMS and especially local DJ, Donna Halper. By now I am sure many of you know the story well. In fact, Rush was so popular in Cleveland at the time that they played in the Northeast Ohio area sixteen times from the summer of 1974 to the end of 1975. That averages nearly one show per month!
Since that first show in 1975, I am happy to say that I haven’t missed a single tour since Caress of Steel. And now the Rush story continues with a new Rush incarnation and a “Fifty Something Tour,” which will surely bring fresh energy while honoring the legacy that hooked me all those many decades ago. I just can’t wait.
F/X by day, Rush Sculpting by Night
I don’t mind sharing that I keep busy by day in my chosen field by formulating and manufacturing all manner of special effects related concoctions for feature films and various media. If you’ve been a movie special effects fan sometime during the last thirty-five years, you’ve likely seen the results of my efforts on both the big and little screens. You can find a few of my film contributions here.
As well, I also find time to apply my artistic skills through clay sculpture by creating Rush inspired art pieces among others. Some of my friends call me The Rush Sculptor, a nickname that I proudly embrace. For a deeper dive into my professional history you can find a 2006 interview I did for Horrowshow Magazine here. Though its from twenty years ago, the article and interview still provides a good overview of my background and what kind of things drive me to this day. I have many interests, but most everything seems to revolve around art, music and science. So welcome to the soundtrack of my very nerdy world with the music of Rush on endless loop playing in the background.
